Electric Charge Stations Come to Australia

a charging point for electric vehiclesChargePoint Pty Ltd and Coulomb Technologies announced today that they have signed a deal to distribute Coulomb Technologies Networked Charging Stations to Australia.

Pilot projects will be set up in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth to evaluate chaging behaviour, energy grid load analysis and environmental and societal impacts.

The companies are expecting the first mass-produced electric vehicles to start arriving in Australia next year with most manufacturers of electric vehicles hitting the Australian market in 2012 and ChargePoint Pty Ltd wants to have plug-in facilities and services in place when the vehicles begin to arrive.

Charging an electric vehicle is not like rolling into a service station and filling up the gas tank … charging an electric vehicle will take time so, obviously, things will be very different for the owners of electric vehicles.
