Rumours are floating around that Toyota is planning on bringing out a hybrid sports car that will possibly carry the MR2 badge. If it does appear the suggestion is that it will be powered by a sports version of the hybrid synergy drive that’s currently in use in the Toyota Camry and mounted in the same mid-engine and rear-wheel drive configuration of the old MR2
Is it really any more than a rumour? I just asked a spokesperson for Toyota that question and in their words “I can never say never, but at this stage Toyota Australia have no plans to introduce such a car”.
