The New Suzuki Swift

suzuki-swiftThe new Suzuki Swift that we covered here in more detail back in December is here and Suzuki have announced the prices for the three models in the Swift lineup.

For all the details on what has gone into the new Suzuki Swift you should refer to that earlier article because the only that’s new in today’s announcement from Suzuki is the equipment levels and prices.

The entry level model is the Swift GA manual at $15,990. The GA will come standard with the following features:

  • 1.4-litre VVT engine
  • Front airbags
  • Seat-mounted side airbags
  • Side curtain airbags
  • Driver’s knee airbag
  • ESP stability control
  • ABS brakes with EBD and BA
  • Four-speaker AM/FM/CD audio system with USB port
  • Air conditioner
  • Power windows
  • Power mirrors
  • Remote central locking
  • 15-inch steel wheels

And that’s not a bad list of standard equipment but you will notice that the GA does not come with automatic transmission.

Prices for the mid-range GL start at $16,690 for the manual and $18,390 for the automatic. The GL will come standard with everything listed for the GA plus:

  • Body-coloured door handles/side mirrors
  • Mirror-mounted side indicators
  • Leather steering wheel
  • Steering wheel-mounted audio controls
  • Six-speaker AM/FM/CD audio system
  • Tachometer

At the top of the range is the GLX starting at $18,990 for the manual and $20,690 for the automatic. Everything that was standard in the GA and GL models is standard in the GLX plus:

  • 16-inch alloy wheels
  • Rear wheel disc brakes
  • Telescopically adjustable steering wheel
  • Keyless entry/start system
  • Bluetooth
  • Climate control air conditioner
  • Front fog lamps

As you can see from that list of standard equipment, even the base model is well-equipped and when it comes to safety you get it all in the GA

The market segment that the Suzuki Swift slots into is very competitive and with the prices that you see listed here the Swift is going to have to compete with less expensive vehicles. Perhaps buyers in this segment will see value in the Swift but success in this segment is more often built on price than anything else.
