This week the Hyundai i30 CRDi rally car is doing it on the tarmac in the Targa Tasmania but next month Team Hyundai Rallye is taking the i30 diesel north to the forests around Coffs Harbour to compete in the NSW round of the Australian Rally Championship.
The i30 diesel is competing in the Showroom Class of the Australian Rally Championship but that doesn’t mean soft roads and gentle driving. I was up there in the early 70s for the Southern Cross Rally and driving on the dirt in the forests is not for the faint-hearted or any vehicle with a weak suspension.
