Last month it was a concept car … the Mazda Minagi … this month it’s headed for the production line as the Mazda CX-5 … a compact SUV designed for urban life that features sleek lines and Mazda’s new SKYACTIV technologies.
Those new technologies that Mazda groups together under the SKYACTIV acronym affects the engine, the transmission, the chassis and even the body design.
Compare the Mazda Minagi/CX-5 with other compact SUVs on the market today and you will notice that the A-pillar has been moved back and the entire cabin seems to sit further back than in comparable SUVs.
Inside the Mazda Minagi the cockpit is designed to focus on the driver and the cabin is all about comfort. Obviously the Minagi is/was something of a concept but it would be reasonable to expect that much of what you see in the interior photos here will still be there in the top-of-the-range Mazda CX-5.
We’ll see the first Mazda CX-5 at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September this year and the first production models of the CX-5 will roll off the assembly lines in 2012.
